Uluru in Australia, or Ayer’s Rock as it is known more commonly, is going to be the next venue for Field of Light, an art installation that’s a global phenomenon, by internationally acclaimed artist Bruce Munro.
From April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017 you can enjoy the sight of more than 50,000 slender stems crowned with frosted-glass spheres that bloom as darkness falls over Australia’s spiritual heartland. Pathways will draw viewers into the installation, which will come to life under a sky brilliant with stars.
Bruce Munro is noted for his immersive site-specific installations that employ light to evoke emotional response, often in an outdoor context and on a monumental scale. The artist conceived the idea for Field of Light on a trip to Uluru in 1992 but the piece saw light of day only in 2004 at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. This is the first time that the installation travels out of the USA the UK and a stint in Mexico.
