Starting out as a private residence in the 1800s, it housed an public elementary school until 1970 (imagine that!) until it was restored to it former and original glory in 2004.<\/p>

This 16-room boutique hotel is the perfect base from which to take in the pleasures of Istanbul, a m\u00e9lange of the east and the west, Europe mingling with Asia, the antiquities of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires.<\/p>

While the facade puts it firmly in the Belle \u00c9poque, the A\u2019jia has a modern, even minimalist interior design concept. The idea, perhaps, is to give pride of place to the waters of the Bosphorus. That is why all the ten deluxe rooms and all the six suites have direct view of the Bosphorus.<\/p>
